All tobacco is sold first at Harare auction floors as green leaf, then exported — primarily via Beira, the shortest route to the sea. Moisture-sensitive bales move on enclosed, ventilated trailers.

Maize & Grain — in from the south.
Zimbabwe is a net importer of maize, especially in drought years. The main flow is inbound via Beitbridge to GMB depots, with national distribution and limited surplus export in good seasons.
Import demand peaks Aug–Feb when local stocks deplete
Fresh flowers, vegetables and citrus move south to Johannesburg markets and out via air freight — 100% on refrigerated trailers with continuous temperature logging. A single break in the cold chain destroys the load.
Cold chain critical — 2-hour pre-cool before every load
Cold chain is everything: Once harvested, horticulture runs 100% on refrigerated trailers with continuous temperature logging. A single excursion above threshold can write off an entire export load — our reefers pre-cool a minimum of 2 hours before loading.
Sugar — out of the Lowveld.
Sugar production is concentrated entirely in the Lowveld — Triangle, Hippo Valley and Mkwasine. Raw and packaged sugar exports move south via Beitbridge to Durban, or east through Mozambique, with domestic distribution nationwide.
Remote Lowveld routes — reliable trucks with good ground clearance required
Cattle from Matabeleland move to Bulawayo abattoirs and west to Botswana for live export. Beef and dairy require cold chain to retail. Livestock demands purpose-built, ventilated trailers with welfare compliance.
Live animal movement requires veterinary certificates & welfare compliance
Animal welfare compliance: All live animal movements require veterinary certificates, movement permits and welfare-compliant ventilated trailers. Cross-border live export to Botswana via Plumtree requires additional health clearance.
