Renewable Energy

Turbine blades to remote site — powering the transition.

Zimbabwe’s energy transition is moving from the page to the field — utility-scale solar farms, the big hydro at Kariba, and emerging wind projects. Renewable freight is project freight: oversized, high-value, time-bound components for remote sites. Select a technology to see what we move and the trailers we move it on.

Turbine blades, nacelles, hub assemblies and tower sections — the definitive abnormal loads, moved on permit with route surveys and escorts.

Most renewable components are abnormal loads — turbine blades, transformers and large panel consignments need ZINARA permits, route surveys and escorts. Plan early; permits take up to 7 working days. (See Project & Special Cargo.)

Project planning, permits & handling

Route & permits

  • Route survey first — the full route surveyed (bridge capacities, overhead clearances, road widths, turning circles), identifying any line-lifting or temporary works
  • Abnormal permits — ZINARA (Zimbabwe), RTMC (SA leg), separate permit per country transited; loads over 3.8m wide require ZRP escort with pilots front and rear
  • Escort & convoy — pilot vehicles, police escort where mandated, daylight-only movement and convoy coordination for multi-component consignments

Handling & cargo

  • Sequenced delivery — components delivered in build order so the EPC contractor isn’t waiting or double-handling
  • Dangerous-goods batteries — lithium BESS units are classed dangerous goods; moved under ADR with correct documentation and handling
  • High-value protection — GPS tracking, sealing and insurance on high-value electronics and turbine components
  • Transit cargo — components transiting Zimbabwe to regional projects move under ZIMRA ECTS sealing on geo-fenced routes
