Cold Chain Cargo

Medicines and vaccines, moved within their range.

Medicines, vaccines and diagnostics moved by temperature-controlled road transport within the storage range on their label.

For medicines, the label sets the limits.

Every medicine and vaccine carries a storage condition set by its manufacturer. Exposure outside it, whether too warm or too cold, can reduce potency in ways that are not visible and cannot be reversed.

We plan healthcare loads around the labelled range, the packaging the shipper uses, the records the receiver needs and the delivery point that will hold the product.

What medicines and vaccines need.

Healthcare cargo follows the manufacturer's storage conditions and the rules of the country it moves in.

  • Within the labelled range

Many vaccines and biological medicines are stored at +2 to +8°C. Others are frozen, or kept at controlled room temperature. The label decides.

  • Protected from freezing

Some vaccines are damaged by freezing, which can happen when they sit too close to a cold source, so packing and loading keep them away from it.

  • A temperature record

WHO guidance for time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals expects temperature to be monitored during transport, so receivers can confirm the product stayed in range.

  • Moved for licensed holders

In Zimbabwe, medicines are imported under permits from the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ), by holders of wholesale dealer permits.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature do vaccines travel at?

At the storage range on their label. Many vaccines are kept at +2 to +8°C, while some are frozen. Each load travels at the range the shipper specifies.

Why can freezing damage some vaccines?

Some vaccines, often those containing an aluminium adjuvant, lose potency if they freeze, and the damage cannot be reversed. They are packed and loaded so they cannot freeze.

Is a temperature record needed?

Usually. WHO guidance for time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products expects temperature to be monitored during transport, and receivers often require the record. Requirements are confirmed before dispatch.

Who can import medicines into Zimbabwe?

Medicines are imported under permits issued by the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ), ordinarily by holders of wholesale dealer permits. Wyvern moves the cargo for the permit holder.

Do you deliver to hospitals and pharmacies?

Yes. Deliveries to hospitals, pharmacies, clinics and laboratories are planned as temperature-controlled distribution.

What do you need to plan a healthcare load?

The products, labelled storage range, packaging, quantity, temperature record requirements, permit holder, and the collection and delivery points.
